Poland reiterates it will not deploy its troops to Ukraine

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Kupiecki said this following talks among national security advisors of the Coalition of the Willing, who met in Kyiv on January 3, Ukrinform reports, citing PAP.

"When it comes to agreements or summing up the process, this will most likely happen only during the leaders' meeting in Paris on January 6," Kupiecki said.

He described the talks in Kyiv as "very productive," noting meetings with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and his security advisors, as well as representatives of Ukraine's special services.

Kupiecki confirmed that one of the main topics was a 20-point peace agreement prepared by the United States and Ukraine.

"Most issues have already been agreed upon. However, a few open topics remain," he added.

The official noted that the most difficult issues concern Ukrainian territories and the status of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

"We are talking about restoring electricity generation, issues of ownership, administration, and the return of specialists, which would make it possible to operate the power plant. This is an important matter for the energy security of a significant part of Ukraine," Kupiecki said.

He said that a peace agreement must be linked to real security guarantees. According to him, the U.S. has made a "huge step forward by declaring its readiness both for a physical presence of its troops and for supporting the actions of European states and Ukraine."

Kupiecki noted that countries of the Coalition of the Willing are simultaneously preparing their own package of security guarantees. Commenting on the presence of Western troops in Ukraine, he stressed that this issue does not concern Poland.

"The position of the Polish government has long been unchanged and well known: there will be no Polish troops in Ukraine," Kupiecki said.

At the same time, he added that Poland, as a country bordering Ukraine, will play a key role in providing logistical and infrastructure support for possible coalition forces.

"It was eight hours of intensive talks, divided into four sessions. There was an absolute sense of solidarity among European states with Ukraine and deep respect for the efforts of Ukrainian society and the military," the Polish diplomat said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a briefing following the meeting of European national security advisors that the Coalition of the Willing had yet to finalize security guarantees for Ukraine, but their effectiveness depended on the readiness of key countries to maintain a military presence in Ukraine after a ceasefire.

Ukraine, together with its partners in the Coalition of the Willing, will finalize a document on security guarantees at the meeting in Paris, which will form the basis for further talks with President Donald Trump.
