Polish Defense Ministry announces transfer of 6-8 MiG-29 jets to Ukraine
That is according to Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk, Ukrinform reports, citing TVN24.
According to the Polish official, the issue concerns "6-8 aircraft" that will be decommissioned at the end of December and will no longer be used by the Polish military.
"They can either end up in a museum, be sold for scrap metal, or go to Ukraine and help kill our enemies. […] In my opinion, it is quite obvious what should happen to them. Especially given that we are also holding talks with Ukraine on the transfer of technologies," Tomczyk said.
The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces earlier stated that Poland planned to transfer the remainder of its MiG-29 aircraft being phased out of service to Ukraine, expecting in return technologies related to the production of UAVs and missiles.
Polish expert and former Minister of National Defense Janusz Onyszkiewicz said in a comment to Ukrinform that Warsaw could transfer its remaining MiG-29s to Kyiv in January or February next year.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki said he had not been informed about the Ministry of National Defense's plans to transfer Polish MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine.
