NATO responds to U.S. troop reduction on Europe’s eastern flank
According to Ukrinform, Reuters reported this, citing a NATO official.
“NATO and US authorities are in close contact about our overall posture – to ensure NATO retains our robust capacity to deter and defend, and the US authorities informed NATO of this adjustment in advance,” the official said on Wednesday.
He added that the adjustment in U.S. troop numbers was not unusual, noting that even with this adjustment, the U.S. force presence in Europe remains larger than it has been for many years.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Romania’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that several NATO allies had been informed about U.S. plans to reduce the number of troops stationed on Europe’s eastern flank, including at Romania’s Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Warsaw had not received any information from Washington regarding a planned reduction of the U.S. contingent in Poland.
