Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has denied rumors that Budapest plans to block the European Union's 19th package of sanctions against Russia in light of the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

That is according to Euractiv, Ukrinform reports.

"We don't have such a plan to block it [the sanctions package]," Szijjarto said.

He added that Hungary had managed to exclude from the package all measures that "would have gone against our national interest."

At the same time, when asked whether he contributed to the discussion on the next round of sanctions on Russia, Szijjarto said: "I don't contribute to crazy things," arguing that the EU's sanctions policy has failed because Russia's war on Ukraine continues.
