NATO PA demands access for international observers to places where Ukrainian POWs are held – MP

Ukrinform
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has called on Russia to grant international observers access to facilities where Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held.

Ukrainian MP Anna Purtova said this in a Facebook post seen by Ukrinform.

"The NATO Parliamentary Assembly supported the initiative to allow international observers to visit places where Ukrainian POWs are held. [...] During this week's session, the Assembly issued a clear statement – condemning the torture practiced by Russia and demanding that international observers be granted access to places of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Today, my amendment to the resolution was adopted, and this is an important signal to the world: this issue will not disappear from the agenda," Purtova said.

She noted that since Russia withdrew from the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the issue must now be raised at the international level.

"We will continue working together with civil society organizations, international missions, ambassadors, and everyone who will not allow this issue to fade away. We will remind, demand, and fight – until every prisoner returns home," Purtova said.

On September 29, Russia withdrew from the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture.
