PM Shmyhal meets Guterres in Spain, calls for sustained international pressure on Russia

According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal announced this on Telegram.

He said that during his meeting with Guterres as part of a working visit to Spain, he thanked him for his personal involvement in the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and his support for humanitarian programs for Ukraine and Ukrainians. This support is important and tangible.

Shmyhal said that Russia attacks Ukrainian cities every day with hundreds of air targets, including drones and missiles. People are dying.

“I informed Mr. Guterres in detail about the attacks on civilians. Russia is not seeking to negotiate, so it must be forced to make peace through systematic international pressure, tougher sanctions, and the provision of the necessary weapons to Ukraine for its defense. I thank the UN for its understanding,” the head of government said.

The parties paid special attention to demining. “The area of potentially mined Ukrainian land today is about 137,000 square kilometers. Mine action operators are actively working, but the amount of work remains large. We need additional support from our partners,” Shmyhal said.

As reported by Ukrinform, at the Fourth United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development, Shmyhal called on the participating states and organizations to support Ukraine's efforts and work together to resolve the food crisis caused by Russia's aggression.
