Sybiha: Pressure on Russia must be coordinated on both sides of the Atlantic

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged the European Union and the United States to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia, describing it as a vital instrument to weaken the Kremlin’s war machine and advance peace efforts. He also underscored the importance of closely coordinated action between both sides of the Atlantic.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy stated this at a joint press conference in Kyiv alongside German counterpart Johann Wadephul, as reported by an Ukrinform correspondent.

“I thank our German partners for advancing the EU’s 18th sanctions package, which we hope will be adopted soon. These sanctions are not only in support of Ukraine—they serve Europe's own interests by cutting off resources from Russia’s war machine,” he stated.

He emphasized the need for coordinated action between both sides of the Atlantic in exerting pressure on Russia, expressing hope that sanctions measures—particularly the proposed Lindsey Graham bill—would soon be adopted in the United States

“Such steps will contribute to the peace process, not hinder it,” he emphasized.

As Ukrinform previously reported, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham described a “breakthrough” in the passage of his sanctions bill targeting Russia and other countries purchasing Russian oil. The bill has reportedly received support from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
