Zelensky planning to meet with Trump at NATO summit

The Ukrainian head of state revealed this in an interview with Sky News presenter Mark Austin, Ukrinform reports.

“Yes, I’m going to [meet with Trump]. I don’t know exactly how it will happen — I’ll be honest with you. Our teams are working on it. Yes, we’re planning to meet,” Zelensky said, noting that both teams are “discussing the timing” of the meeting.

When asked whether he thinks Trump has a better relationship with Putin than with the Ukrainian leader, Zelensky responded: “That’s a very difficult question, because I don’t know what kind of relationship Trump has with Putin… I’m sure that President Trump understands that Ukrainians are allies of America, and that the real existential enemy of America is Russia. They will never be friends. They may be short-term partners, but they will never be friends,” Zelensky stated.

As Ukrinform reported, on Tuesday, June 24, the two-day NATO summit begins in The Hague. Participants will discuss three main issues: increasing defense spending, boosting defense production, and continuing support for Ukraine.

Ahead of the summit, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and announced that President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team would take part in several events over the coming days.
