Sybiha on Russia's attack on Ukraine: Putin wants to make G7 leaders look weak

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made the statement on the social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.

"This night, Russia launched a massive and brutal strike against Ukraine. Hundreds of drones and missiles targeting civilians. Kyiv suffered particularly severe attacks. Putin does this on purpose, just before [the final day of] the G7 summit. He sends a signal of total disrespect to the United States and other partners who have called for an end to the killing," Sybiha wrote.

According to him, Russia not only rejects a ceasefire or a leaders' meeting to find solutions and end the war. It cynically strikes Ukraine's capital while pretending to seek diplomatic solutions.

"Putin's goal is very simple: make the G7 leaders appear weak. Only strong steps and real pressure on Moscow can prove him wrong," Sybiha said.

In the early hours of June 17, 27 locations in Kyiv were targeted in a complex Russian attack. Preliminary reports indicated 14 people were killed and 99 injured, with 59 hospitalized.

In Odesa, one person was killed and ten others were injured.

One person was injured in each of the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
