Nordic leaders hold informal meeting, discuss Ukraine
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Yle.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Åland Islands Premier Katrin Sjögren hosted the meeting of PMs from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland.
Among other topics, the leaders discussed the situation in Ukraine and reaffirmed their support for Kyiv. At a press conference in the town of Paimio on Monday, they emphasized that the global situation has changed, and it is important that neighbors with shared values deepen their cooperation.
At the start of the briefing, PM Orpo referred to the recent intensification of Russian attacks on Ukraine, saying that these strikes clearly demonstrate that Moscow is not serious about wanting peace.
Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stressed that support for Ukraine must continue by all possible means.
It was noted that on Tuesday, Orpo is set to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Turku. Later, the German Chancellor is scheduled to meet with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Naantali, where they will discuss topics including European security and achieving peace in Ukraine.
As reported earlier by Ukrinform, on Sunday, Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russian Ambassador Pavel Kuznetsov to provide explanations over the violation of Finnish airspace on May 23.
