Zelensky, Rutte discuss formats, platforms for negotiations with Russia
The Ukrainian leader shared details of the conversation in a post on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
"I held a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. We discussed the current situation, our joint next steps, and the necessity of applying pressure on Russia. I shared details of recent engagements with partners and outlined the formats and platforms we are considering for continuing negotiations with the Russian side regarding a ceasefire," Zelensky said.
He added that the conversation also touched on sanctions that could have a real impact on Russia.
"It is essential that all decisions are coordinated — only then will sanctions be effective. Without pressure on Moscow, a just peace cannot be achieved. Everyone understands this," Zelensky said.
He also noted that he and Rutte discussed NATO-level cooperation and preparations for upcoming meetings.
"We agreed to remain in contact," he concluded.
On May 19, Zelensky stated during a briefing that Ukraine was considering various venues for potential peace talks with Russia, including Istanbul, the Vatican, Geneva, or another location, as long as all parties involved in the negotiation process support the chosen option.
