'Five territories,' no NATO: Witkoff reveals details of 'peace deal' proposed by Putin
He shared the details in an interview with Fox News, according to Ukrinform.
According to Witkoff, during their nearly five-hour meeting, Putin said he was ready to secure "a permanent peace" with Ukraine.
"Putin's request is to get to have a permanent peace here. So, beyond the ceasefire, we got an answer to that," Witkoff said, acknowledging that "it took a while for us to get to this place."
The key to the overall agreement, Witkoff said, centers around "five territories."
"This peace deal is about these so-called five territories, but there's so much more to it. […] There's a security protocol, no NATO, NATO's Article 5. […] There are a lot of details attached to this complicated situation. Some real problematic things are happening between the two countries. But I think we might be on the verge of something that would be very, very important for the world at large," he said, without specifying which territories were being discussed.
Trump's special envoy also added that he sees "a possibility to reshape the Russian-United States relationship through some very compelling commercial opportunities" that could give real stability to the region.
On April 11 in St. Petersburg, Witkoff met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
On the same day, Witkoff also held a meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Putin's representative in negotiations with Washington.
