Ukraine's NATO membership must remain on negotiations agenda – Sybiha

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine's NATO membership, as the most effective guarantee of security for Ukraine, cannot be removed from the agenda during future peace negotiations.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy made this statement in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, as reported by Ukrinform.

"NATO cannot be removed from the agenda, that’s the first position. Yes, currently there is no consensus among our partners regarding Ukraine's membership in NATO, but I repeat, this is enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine, it is the strategic choice of the Ukrainian people, and the most effective guarantee of Ukraine's security is membership in NATO," said Sybiha.

Among other security guarantees, he mentioned the protection of Ukraine's air and sea space and the strengthening of its own military capabilities.

"If we talk about other specific, effective security guarantees – it’s air patrols, the use of air fleets, the anti-aircraft defense systems of our allies. That is, of course, the sea. Undoubtedly, there are opportunities arising from the involvement of the navy in the Black Sea. Certainly, it is support for our defense industry," emphasized the minister.

He noted that we must become increasingly self-sufficient in the defense sector and "strengthen our position so that the enemy clearly understands the consequences and the price of possible further provocations, possible further aggression."

"But the top priority is, of course, air defense systems, strengthening our capabilities in drones, and, of course, artillery capabilities – this includes shells and artillery. These priorities are clearly known; we are working with partners and focusing on achieving concrete results," concluded the Foreign Minister.

As reported, U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz stated that Ukraine's accession to NATO is unlikely, and this position is held not only by the United States but also by other NATO member countries.
