PM: We value Trump’s peace efforts, but approach matters
This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at a press conference, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
The head of the Ukrainian government stated that after the Russian aggression, the world has changed and continues to change, and global security is under threat.
In this context, Shmyhal expressed hope that the United States and the Trump administration will take a position to maintain the global security system at least at the level it was before the Russian invasion.
“We understand very well President Trump's intentions to conclude a peace agreement and achieve peace. We believe and know that this is his sincere desire, and we appreciate this desire and are grateful for it. The approach is important, the way is important,” Shmyhal said.
He emphasized that Ukraine should be an important participant in the peace process, as “it is impossible to achieve peace in Ukraine, the victim country, without its participation, without the participation of the leader of our state, President Zelensky.”
“Therefore, I repeat: today we must very calmly, through diplomatic means, in a very adult way, find a solution to achieve a just and lasting peace and return this peace to the European continent, return security to Ukraine and Europe and once again prove the importance and greatness of the United States as a world leader in terms of maintaining global security,” the Prime Minister summarized.
As reported by Ukrinform, US President Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all US military aid to Ukraine to force Kyiv to demonstrate a “good faith commitment” to peace.
