China calls on international community to help Ukraine, Russia launch talks

China continues to insist on negotiations to resolve the "Ukraine crisis" and believes that the international community should help create conditions for the resumption of direct talks between Kyiv and Moscow.

This was stated at a briefing by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.

"In our opinion, the only possible way to resolve the ‘crisis’ (as China refers to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine - ed.) is dialogue and negotiations, so the international community should help create conditions for the resumption of direct talks between the two parties to the conflict," Lin noted.

According to him, the "Ukraine crisis" can only be resolved when all major powers demonstrate "positive energy".

“Only when all major powers demonstrate positive energy can we see hope for a quick ceasefire,” the diplomat noted.

Beijing declares neutrality regarding the Russo-Ukrainian war, but provides Moscow with large-scale economic and diplomatic support, ignores the escalation of hostilities by the aggressor state and the involvement of Iran and North Korea in the war on Russia’s side, while criticizing military aid to Ukraine from the United States and other partner countries in order to protect the nation from Russian invasion.

China refuses to participate in international efforts to force the Putin regime to end the war in Ukraine, instead producing its own "peace" initiatives, such as the joint "six-point consensus" with Brazil in May or the "Friends of Peace" platform in September, which are declarative in nature and do not envisage the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity or the establishment of a just peace with holding Russia accountable for the crime of aggression.

As Ukrinform reported, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock plans to emphasize during her visit to Beijing on Monday that China's position on Russia's war against Ukraine affects relations between China and Europe, including Germany.
