Crimean Tatar leaders meet with Turkish ambassador to Ukraine

Representatives from the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people held a meeting with Türkiye Ambassador to Ukraine Mustafa Levent Bilgen.

That’s according to the Mejlis press service, Ukrinform reports.

The parties discussed issues related to the situation of the Crimean Tatar people in the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as the development of the Crimean Tatar language and education in Turkish universities.

It is noted that the meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the mission, Levent Ugurlu, Third Secretary Sevilai Yildirim, leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, deputy heads of the Mejlis Ilmi Umerov and Artem Chiyhoz, as well as members of the Mejlis, Riza Shevkiev and Eskender Bariev.

The parties discussed issues related to the situation of the Crimean Tatar people in Russia-occupied Crimea and the peculiarities of the peninsula’s reintegration after its liberation.

"The chairman and members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people briefed the Turkish diplomats on their main activities in 2024 amid the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, discussed the issue of cooperation with Turkish academics and specialized institutions in the field of the development of the Crimean Tatar language and the education of young people in Turkish universities, establishing twinning ties between the cities in Türkiye and Ukraine," the report reads.

A number of practical issues were also discussed, related to the provision of assistance to citizens of Ukraine evacuated to Türkiye and are now under a temporarily international protection.

Earlier, Ukrinform reported that Refat Chubarov criticized municipal officials in some Turkish cities for hosting Russian invaders from Crimea’s Yalta.
