Zelensky, Amir of Qatar discuss return of Ukrainian children removed by Russia

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine discussed with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the issue of the return of Ukrainian children from Russia and the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative.

The head of state reported this on X, Ukrinform saw.

"I spoke with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. I thanked Qatar for its important mediation role and the Amir for his personal stance on the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia. We discussed further coordination in this area," Zelensky wrote.

The president also noted Qatar’s contribution in the amount of $20 million to the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative and reaffirmed Ukraine’s determination to remain a global food security guarantor despite Russia's attempts to undermine freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.

In addition, the head of the Ukrainian state and the Amir of Qatar discussed further work on the implementing the Ukrainian Peace Formula and organizing the Global Peace Summit.

Zelensky invited Qatar’s representative to the upcoming meeting of advisors in Davos.

As Ukrinform reported, in early December, Russia allowed six Ukrainian children, illegally removed from their country, to reunite with their families in Ukraine. This happened due to Qatar’s mediation.

This was the second case where Ukrainian children were returned to Ukraine with Qatar’s involvement. The first such case was reported in October.

Grain from Ukraine is a humanitarian food project officially launched on November 26, 2022, the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, by Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed to supply grain to the most vulnerable nations in Africa.
