Blinken announces 'robust' package of political, practical support for Ukraine at NATO summit

At the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, members of the military alliance will provide Ukraine with a "robust package" of support, which will send a signal to Putin that international unity remains strong and he will not succeed in achieving his goals.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this at a press conference in Washington on Monday, June 12, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"I think what you can expect to see at the NATO summit is a robust package of both political and practical support for Ukraine going forward," he said.

He also noted that this would send a strong message to Putin, who apparently wants to wait until the international community ends its aid to Ukraine. However, he said, the countries that support Ukrainians are full of determination.

Blinken said that the civilized world and Ukraine want a just and durable peace.

"If and when Russia is prepared to engage on that basis, we all will be prepared to do that. But what we're seeing today is that it's not prepared to do that," he said.

The NATO summit will be held in Vilnius on July 11-12.

Ukraine raises before its NATO allies the issue of providing security guarantees and a clear perspective of moving toward full membership in the military alliance.
