Sandu: Summit at Ukraine's borders is sign of solidarity

This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu at the summit in Chisinau, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Our decision to gather today at the second summit of the European Political Community just 20 km from the Ukrainian border demonstrates our solidarity with Ukraine and its people. Ukrainians are fighting for freedom, European values and the future of our continent," Sandu said.

According to her, Moldova has demonstrated solidarity, in particular by hosting Ukrainian refugees.

"But more needs to be done. This summit provides a platform to find solutions that we can all commit ourselves to in order to return peace to the continent, overcome the consequences of war and protect Europe," Sandu said.

According to her, the second summit of the European Political Community is a clear expression of "unity, strength and determination to act together as a family".

She also stressed that Russia has unleashed the biggest war on the European continent since the Second World War.

"A war that unites us in a strong desire to restore peace on our continent," the Moldovan president said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the summit of the European Political Community is taking place on 1-2 June in Moldova at Mimi Castle, 35 kilometres from Chisinau. It is attended by 47 presidents and prime ministers, as well as heads of European institutions.
