Trudeau, Macron discuss Ukraine’s defense, reconstruction needs

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron met on the margins of the G7 Summit in Japan’s Hiroshima and discussed Ukraine’s defense and long-term reconstruction needs.

The relevant statement was made on the official website of the Prime Minister of Canada, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The Prime Minister [Justin Trudeau – Ed.] and the President [Emmanuel Macron – Ed.] underscored the importance of continued transatlantic unity in support of Ukraine’s defence and long-term reconstruction needs,” the report states.

Additionally, the two leaders committed to holding Russia accountable for its brutal acts of aggression and to supporting those most affected by the consequences of Russia’s actions.

Trudeau and Macron also spoke about the importance of G7 unity in addressing the threat to democracy posed by disinformation and misinformation.

A reminder that the G7 Summit was taking place in Japan’s Hiroshima on May 19-21, 2023.
