Prime Minister of Albania: It is thanks to Ukraine that we owe our protection

European countries should be grateful to Ukraine, not the other way around, considering what the Ukrainian people are currently doing for Europe.

Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania, stated this in his speech at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik, according to Ukrinform correspondent.

"Thank God, the unity of the democratic community of the Council of Europe in supporting the Ukrainian liberation war and President Zelensky is extraordinary. Albania has never had illusions about the nature of the regime in Moscow, and our relations with Moscow have not existed since the death of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin. Don't ask me to explain how and why, because it would take more time than our trip to Iceland," he said.

Rama added that since the beginning of the war, Putin's popularity in Albania fluctuates between 0.7% and 1.2%.

"Albania is very small to influence the fate of such a decisive war for the future of Europe and the world. But every little thing we have done for Ukraine has been done with great gratitude to the Ukrainian resistance... It is not President Zelensky who should thank us, but we should thank Ukraine for what it is doing for all of us and for our beloved Europe," he said.

The Albanian Prime Minister added that he would gladly sign the agreement on the International Register of Damages from Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"God bless Europe and Glory to Ukraine!" Rama concluded his speech.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik, 43 countries and the EU signed an agreement to create the Register of Damages inflicted on Ukraine by Russian aggression.

The Register of Damages is being created as a platform for intergovernmental cooperation within the institutional framework of the Council of Europe. The Register is a legal entity under the national legislation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Ukraine and is physically located in the Netherlands.

It receives and processes information on claims for damages and evidence, serving as the first component of the future International Compensation Mechanism, which will be established through a separate international agreement in cooperation with Ukraine. Subsequently, a Claims Review Commission and a Compensation Fund will be established.

Any member state or observer of the Council of Europe and the European Union, as well as any other state that voted in favor of UN General Assembly Resolution of November 14, 2022, can join the Register.
