Brazil leader offers mediation for peace in Ukraine

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil has once again expressed his readiness to act as a mediator in peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

That’s according to Metropoles, Ukrinform reports.

The Brazilian president intends to discuss this issue at the upcoming G7 summit in Japan.

During a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Lula said peace in Ukraine could be achieved through negotiations, in which Brazil will help find a "middle ground."

"Ukraine cannot actually come to terms with the occupation of its territory, it must resist. The EU is right in its decision (to support Ukraine, - ed.), and Brazil and other countries are right in seeking to find a middle ground. I think it is possible. If I didn't believe it was possible, I wouldn't have taken this on," Lula da Silva said.

The president said he had already discussed the issue with the leaders of China, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. He added he was also going to raise the topic on the sidelines of the G7 summit to be hosted by Japan.

As reported, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Lula said he was "committed to finding a peaceful solution to end the conflict." Earlier, Lula da Silva offered Ukraine to cede Crimea to end the war.
