The Korean people have experienced the armed struggle for freedom and sovereignty with the support of the free world, which is what Ukrainians are experiencing now, so the Republic of Korea will support Ukraine and its efforts to rebuild the country after the war.

The President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol said this in a speech to both houses of the U.S. Congress on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Freedom and democracy are once again under threat. The war against Ukraine is a violation of international law. It is an attempt to unilaterally change the status quo with force. Korea strongly condemns the unprovoked armed attack against Ukraine," the South Korean President said.

He recalled that when North Korea attacked the South in 1950, democracies from around the world lent their support to Seoul.

"We fought together and kept our freedom. The rest is history," said the President of the Republic of Korea.

He emphasized that his country's experience shows "how important it is for democracies to uphold solidarity." Therefore, he said, Korea will stand in solidarity with the entire free world.

"We will actively work to safeguard the freedom and the people of Ukraine and support the efforts of reconstruction," he emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol is on a state visit to the United States. On Wednesday, he met with the President of the United States Joe Biden.
