The Group of Seven must prove to the Russian president that he will never achieve his goals in Ukraine.

This was stated by Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock, who is participating in the Group of Seven foreign ministerial, Ukrinform reports.

"As a crisis team on a long-term mission, the G7 last year confronted Russian aggression with one barrier after another: winter aid for people in Ukraine, Russia sanctions and oil price caps. With our support, Ukraine survived the Russian energy war and the winter offensive," Baerbock said.

She noted that during the meeting in Japan, the G7 representatives will confirm and strengthen their commitments.

"At the moment it is about showing Putin our determination that he will not achieve his goals including due to exhaustion and fatigue," the diplomat said.

She recalled that Japan took over the G7 presidency from Germany, and thanked Tokyo for the fact that its partners can absolutely rely on Japan.

Overall, Baerbock believes the group of most advanced democracies is successful in confronting autocratic forces when its partners and friends around the world have confidence in the G7. At the same time, it is necessary to avoid perception that the G7 unity is an attempt to impose limitations or strengthen the gap, minister emphasized. She recalled that the G7 was working on solutions to the debt crises of many countries, persistently trying to prevent global hunger, and fighting the greatest security risk of the century – the climate crisis.

"As the G7, we are strong when united because we know exactly what we stand for: an international order in which the rule of law and international law take precedence over the right of the stronger; for economic relations based not on dependencies, but on fairness and general rules of competition," Baerbock said.

As reported, before arriving in Japan, Baerbock flew to China and South Korea.
