Zelensky calls on world to save Saakashvili

Ukrinform
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the international community to help save Mikheil Saakashvili's life and prevent his execution.

The head of state said this on his Twitter account, Ukrinform reports.

"Right now, a Ukrainian citizen, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is being slowly killed. The very fact that we still have to fight against such an attempt at de facto public execution of a person in Europe in the XXI century is a disgrace!" Zelensky wrote.

Given the threat to Saakashvili's life, Zelensky called on the Georgian authorities to recall their obligations under the European human rights protection norms, stop the abuse and free the former president.

"Ukraine offered solutions. I urge the world to help save Mikheil's life and prevent his execution," Zelensky said.

At a press conference with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen in Kyiv, Zelensky showed photos of Saakashvili and said the Georgian authorities were publicly torturing and killing him.
