Duda: After its victory, Ukraine should sign peace treaty with Russia in Pereiaslav

After its victory over Russia, Ukraine should sign a peace treaty with Moscow in Pereiaslav, where Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky concluded a peace treaty with the Muscovite tsardom back in 1654.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said this at a meeting with the Polish diaspora in Latvia on Tuesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Once, not so long ago, I told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: 'Volodymyr, looking at our history, how these paths once diverged, I am asking you very much - when you defeat Russia, when the Russians come here on their knees to sign a peace treaty, take them to Pereiaslav. Let them sign a peace treaty with you there. Let them erase with this all those years of Soviet and Russian influence'," Duda said.

He noted that the Poles, as well as the Baltic countries, would support the Ukrainians and build a common European future together with them.

Duda said that Poland, along with Latvia and other Baltic countries, had been actively supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian invaders. He also added that thanks to this support, Ukrainians would defeat the enemy.
