The key issue on the Ukraine-EU Summit agenda should be the prospect of the earliest possible start of the negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union following the implementation of all the recommendations of the European Commission.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this at an online briefing on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Ukraine’s top diplomat noted that the Ukrainian side is preparing to present the results of the implementation of all seven recommendations of the European Commission at the Ukraine-EU Summit and expects the EU to positively assess our efforts.

"The key issue on the agenda should be the prospect of the earliest possible start of the negotiation process on joining the European Union after Ukraine fulfills all the recommendations of the European Commission and receives a positive assessment," Kuleba said.

He added that Ukraine counts on significant progress in approaching the internal market of the European Union and energy cooperation.

According to the minister, the summit will also focus on new EU sanctions, in particular regarding the missile and drone and the nuclear industry. The security situation, implementation of President Zelensky's Peace Formula, efforts to hold Russia to account for its crimes, and post-war reconstruction will also be considered.

The parties are expected to sign several documents, currently under consideration, at the summit and make a joint statement following the summit, Kuleba noted.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the President’s Office are working actively on the finalization of the joint statement so that it is as strong as possible and meets the interests of Ukraine as much as possible," the minister assured.

As reported, the Ukraine-EU Summit will be held in Kyiv on February 3.
