Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has visited the Hryhorii Skovoroda Memorial Museum in Pereiaslav as part of a working trip to the Kyiv region.

That's according to the website of the head of state, Ukrinform reports.

Zelensky familiarized himself with the museum's exposition. In particular, rare books from the 17th-19th centuries and a collection of ancient textbooks are stored here.

In one of the rooms, there is a portrait of Hryhorii Skovoroda that dates back to the end of the 18th century, which is considered the oldest in Ukraine.

In addition, the museum exhibits ancient musical instruments and typical peasant clothing of the 19th century.

The heads of state were told about the cultural and artistic project "With Skovoroda in the Heart," which was launched in May 2021. As part of the project, towels with authentic ornaments are created, which were characteristic of the period when Skovoroda lived and worked in Pereiaslav.

The president also inspected the hall where the interior of a classroom from Skovoroda's time was recreated.

"The history of our country is created and transmitted by people. Skovoroda is one of those outstanding people who carry this history for 300 years, those who carry everything Ukrainian. He carries the fire of knowledge and cognition. And when you want to understand what Ukraine is like, what it lives on, how it inspires, you can understand it thanks to thoughts, books, paintings, art, songs," Zelensky said after visiting the museum.

Later, on his Facebook page, the head of state added: "Skovoroda's creative works remain relevant even today. Paraphrasing the most famous words of the philosopher, no matter how the occupiers try to catch us, they will not catch us. We will definitely hold out."
