The Russian president’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, says Russia will do everything possible to prevent the seizure of its frozen assets.

The press secretary said this while commenting on the resolution passed by the UN General Assembly on ensuring that Russia pay reparations to Ukraine, Ukrinform reports with reference to Interfax.

"Russia will do everything possible to prevent the seizure of frozen Russian assets," Peskov said.

Peskov also claimed that the Russian gold and currency reserves were blocked "in an absolutely illegal way", while regarding the adopted decision he emphasized that it "is not legally binding, and that is how we will treat it".

As reported earlier, the resolution of the UN General Assembly, passed on November 14, provides for the creation of a register of damage inflicted by the war and the development of a mechanism for paying reparations to Ukraine.

This is already the fifth resolution of the General Assembly targeting Russian aggression. Ninety-three countries supported the latest resolution, 73 abstained, and 13 voted against it, including China, which previously abstained during such votes.

Unlike the decisions of the UN Security Council, the resolutions of the General Assembly are of an advisory nature.

After the start of a full-scale war, the EU and USA blocked Russia’s gold and foreign currency reserves, which are at their disposal. The authorities in these countries have repeatedly stated that they intend to find a legal mechanism to withdraw these funds and redirect them to the Ukraine restoration efforts.
