PM Kishida: Russia’s aggression against Ukraine shatters international legal order not only in Europe

"Russia's aggression against Ukraine is an outrageous act that shattered the foundations of the international order not only in Europe but also in Asia," Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida said at the 2nd Crimea Platform Summit, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He underscored his country's solidarity with the government and people of Ukraine and pointed out Japan's consistent support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine together with Crimea.

The Prime Minister of Japan also drew attention to the nuclear disaster threat at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant due to the actions of the Russian military that had occupied the ZNPP.

He noted that Tokyo had already imposed tough sanctions on Moscow over its crimes in Ukraine and was ready to strengthen them.

In addition, Kishida outlined the assistance that the Japanese government plans to provide to Ukraine.

"Japan intends to provide another $1.1 billion to support and expand Ukraine's grain storage capacities and respond to the global food crisis," he noted.

In addition, Kishida reported on Japan's steps to involve other Asian states in international efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war and restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"As the leader of the only G7 member country in Asia, I held talks with the leaders of India and the countries of Southeast Asia, during which we reached an agreement on the importance of adhering to the principles adopted by the international community," said the Prime Minister of Japan.

He plans to call on African states to support Ukraine during the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development which will be held in Tunisia this weekend.

Concluding his speech, Kishida assured of Japan's continued support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.

"As the country that will chair the G7 next year, Japan is working closely with the international community, making every effort to establish peace and restore Ukraine as soon as possible," he said.

As reported, the Crimea Platform is an international consultation and coordination format initiated by Ukraine, launched by the President of Ukraine in August 2021 to structure all issues related to the peninsula. The purpose of this format is to develop practical approaches to drawing international attention to the situation in Crimea and to discuss the possibilities of its return to Ukraine.

The 2nd summit of the Crimea Platform is held online today for security reasons due to the constant shelling of Ukrainian cities by the Russian army. Sixty countries and international organizations take part in the event, including about 40 at the level of presidents and prime ministers.

This year, the geography of the Crimea Platform expanded and included the countries of the African continent and Latin America.
