President tables motion to appoint Andriy Kostin as prosecutor general

President Volodymyr Zelensky has tabled a motion to appoint Andriy Kostin as prosecutor general of Ukraine.

The relevant report was published on the parliament’s website.

"In accordance with paragraph 11 of the first part of Article 106 and the third part of Article 131-1 of the Constitution of Ukraine, I am submitting a motion in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for granting consent to appoint Andriy Kostin to the position of prosecutor general," the draft document reads.

The president’s representative in the Constitutional Court, Fedor Venislavskyi, is authorized to present the motion at a parliament’s meeting.

The draft resolution was submitted for consideration to the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada and the relevant parliamentary committee.

As Ukrinform reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky removed Iryna Venediktova from the position of prosecutor general on July 17.

On July 19, the Verkhovna Rada voted to terminate Venediktova's powers as prosecutor general.
