European Commission starting to work with Ukraine as with future EU member – Kuleba

At the level of the European Commission, certain mechanisms have been already launched to work with Ukraine as with a future member of the European Union.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this in an interview with LB.ua, Ukrinform reports.

"I see how certain mechanisms are already being launched at the level of the European Commission to work with Ukraine as with a future member of the European Union. At the level of the European Commission, they are already beginning to reflect (and then it will turn into official analytics, already on paper, with all document headings and signatures) - what impact Ukraine's accession will have on European policies. Starting, for example, from how many deputies are needed in the European Parliament, to what will be the influence of Ukrainian agriculture on the European agricultural policy," Kuleba said.

He added that he also sees how the doors in the European Union are opening due to the Ukraine’s integration into the internal market. "These are zero import rates, this is the transport visa-free regime. The process is underway in this direction," the minister said.

At the same time, Kuleba noted that although the process of opening doors for Ukraine continues, the European Union should also introduce reforms.

"We will join another European Union. But at the moment, I do not see any indicators that would show that the topic of European Union reform is being used to slow down the European integration of Ukraine,” Kuleba said.

As reported, the Heads of State and Government of the European Union on June 23 adopted a decision to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
