The Government of the Republic of Moldova intends to analyze the norms and agreements on the compliance of the country's membership in the CIS against the background of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and Moldova's priority to become a European Union member.

This was stated on Monday on PRO TV by Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, Ukrinform reports.

"Integration into the European Union is an absolute priority for our country," Popescu said.

He noted that the state leadership intends to "analyze" both legislative acts and agreements on Moldova's membership in the CIS. At the same time, the Minister also drew attention to the changing regional situation, namely the aggression Russia is waging toward Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported, earlier in Moldova, pro-Russian ex-president Igor Dodon was detained and later placed under house arrest on corruption and treason charges. Dodon has been closely associated with Moscow and has repeatedly expressed support for Putin and Russia’s policies.
