It's up to Ukraine whether it should cede territory - Biden

It is Ukraine, which is resisting Russian armed aggression, that will determine the ways of achieving peace on its territory, while the U.S. will help the country in this regard.

That’s according to U.S. President Joe Biden who responded to a question of whether the nation needs to cede part of its territory to achieve peace and end the Russian invasion, CNN reports.

“From the beginning, I’ve said — and not everyone’s agreed with me — nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. It’s their territory. I’m not going to tell them what they should and shouldn’t do,” Biden told journalists.

Biden did add that it “appears” at some point there will need to be a “settlement” between the two countries, adding “what that entails, I don’t know.”

Biden said that in the meantime, the United States will continue to put Ukrainians in a position where they can defend themselves.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on June 1, Biden’s administration announced another security assistance package for Ukraine worth $700 million. It includes HIMARS rocket artillery systems and munitions to them, counterbattery radars, aerial monitoring radars, 1,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles, 6,000 units of other anti-tank arms, 15,000 artillery shells (155mm), four Mi17 helicopters, 15 tactical vehicles, spare parts, and other equipment.
