The governments of Ukraine and Poland have signed eight agreements on cooperation in various fields.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this at a joint briefing with his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki in Kyiv on Wednesday, June 1, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Today, for the first time in Ukraine, the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Poland held Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental consultations in Kyiv. The number of agreements and memorandums just signed shows that еру new level of relations that Ukraine and Poland have built over the last three months is business-like and development-oriented," Shmyhal said.

He added that the issue concerned eight documents on cooperation in the fields of energy, defense, cross-border and customs cooperation, environmental policy, rebuilding of Ukraine, as well as cooperation on national memory.

"Our governments made a joint statement after intergovernmental consultations. Among the important points is that Poland supports Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO and will make efforts for Ukraine to obtain EU candidate status this June," Shmyhal added.

In addition, both parties agreed to strengthen defense cooperation, develop a Polish-Ukrainian-British alliance and work to strengthen sanctions against Russia and develop cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and Poland.
