Talks impossible as long as Russia believes they wage war against NATO – Podolyak

Talks between Ukraine and the Russian Federation have been suspended until the Russian side takes an objective look at the situation.

The relevant statement was made by Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak in an interview with Nastoyashcheye Vremya [Current Time], an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Podolyak, Russia has returned to its initial, ‘not quite clear idea of the world and their role in the world’, and has not yet realized they have been waging the war against not NATO but Ukraine for 85 days so far.

“This prevents them from taking the negotiation process adequately,” Podolyak said.

In his words, at the moment the two parties have nothing to talk about; there are no intersecting lines, when the parties are ready to clearly, objectively and logically explain their motives.

At the same time, Podolyak stressed negotiations are an important instrument during the war. But, negotiations are a platform, on which the parties adequately assess themselves, the situation on the battlefield and the position of their country, Podolyak added.
