UN Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Ukraine after visiting Moscow where he met with president Putin.

“I have arrived in Ukraine after visiting Moscow,” Guterres posted on Twitter.

According to him, the UN will continue its work to expand humanitarian support and secure the evacuation of civilians from conflict zones.

“The sooner this war ends, the better – for the sake of Ukraine, Russia, and the world,” the UN Secretary-General noted.

On Thursday, Guterres will hold talks with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.

As reported, after Putin–Guterres meeting yesterday, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General said that Putin had allegedly agreed to involve UN agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross in the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. Guterres suggested setting up a humanitarian contact group consisting of representatives of Russia, Ukraine, and the United Nations to find ways to open safe corridors with local cessation of hostilities, as well as to ensure that they are truly effective.

Today, April 27, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied UN information about an agreement with Russia on joint participation with the International Committee of the Red Cross in the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol's Azovstal.

According to UN General Assembly resolutions, Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a gross violation of the UN Charter and international law. The documents call on Russia to immediately cease hostilities and withdraw troops from Ukraine.
