President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, underscoring the need to immediately evacuate civilians from Mariupol.

“Had an important phone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. On the eve of his talks with Putin, I stressed the need for the immediate evacuation of civilians from Mariupol, including Azovstal, and immediate exchange of blocked troops,” Zelensky posted on Twitter.

In addition, the leaders discussed the course of the negotiation process and coordination of security guarantees for Ukraine with Turkey and other countries.

As the President noted, the issues related to Ukraine’s defense capabilities and global food security, which is under threat due to the blocking of navigation in the Black Sea, were raised.

As reported, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will pay a visit to Turkey on April 25 ahead of the visits to Russia and Ukraine.
