Medvedchuk expelled from parliamentary committee on human rights

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has decided to dismiss Viktor Medvedchuk, an MP from the Opposition Platform – For Life, from the post of a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, De-occupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk, Luhansk regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol, national minorities and interethnic relations.

A total of 295 MP voted for relevant resolution No. 7301, Ukrinform reports with reference to the parliament's website.

As reported, on February 27, it emerged that MP Medvedchuk, suspected of treason and aiding the activities of a terrorist organization, had escaped from house arrest.

On March 18, an investigating judge granted the investigator's request that Medvedchuk be remanded in custody in his absence.

On April 12, he was detained in a special operation conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine.

On April 13, the Lychakivskyi District Court of Lviv City, at the request of the State Bureau of Investigation, arrested 154 objects of movable and immovable property of Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko.
