NATO Heads of State and Government, who met today in Brussels in the format of an emergency summit to discuss the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, reaffirmed their strong commitment to NATO's open door policy in new strategic circumstances.

"At today's meeting, leaders reaffirmed our strong commitment to NATO's open door policy under Article 10 of the Washington Treaty. NATO enlargement has been a historic success, spreading democracy, freedom, and prosperity across Europe," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said following the meeting.

At the same time, he noted that NATO intended to increase its support for other countries at risk from Russia and help them with reforms in the security and defense sectors. In particular, in this context, NATO Secretary General mentioned Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As reported, on February 24, 2022, Russia launched an unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine which met fierce opposition from the Armed Forces and the entire nation.

Today, three summits are held in Brussels – in NATO, EU, and G7 format – devoted to the response to the crisis provoked by Putin's war against Ukraine.
