US preparing new package of economic assistance to Ukraine

The White House has officially confirmed that the U.S. side is working with the Government of Ukraine on a new package of economic assistance against the background of Russia’s aggression.

“Yes, we have been discussing with the Ukrainians a package of economic assistance,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a briefing on February 2.

She noted that the package had been discussed during the conversation between presidents Biden and Zelensky last week, and now the discussion of the next steps continued at the level of the governments of the United States and Ukraine.

Psaki added that was not the first U.S. economic package provided to Ukraine.

“We have provided a significant amount of assistance — not just security assistance, but humanitarian and other economic assistance — over the course of time, so that would certainly build on that,” the White House Press Secretary noted.

As reported, after the conversation between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine on January 27, the American side announced that it was considering ways to provide additional assistance to Ukraine's economy in the face of military pressure from Russia.
