Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala Mario Adolfo Bucaro Flores have discussed cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism and education, Ukrinform reports, referring to the Ukrainian ministry’s press service.

“Ukraine and Guatemala are united by strong political ties. We appreciate Guatemala's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state, and active cooperation within international organizations. It is time to open a new page of bilateral relations to bring cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, tourism and education to a new level," Kuleba said.

He thanked Flores for his initiative to hold a phone conversation on the second day after his appointment as Guatemalan foreign minister to show solidarity with Ukraine amid Russian aggressive actions.

The Ukrainian foreign minister informed his Guatemalan counterpart in detail about the security situation near Ukraine’s state borders, the efforts of Ukraine and its partners to de-escalate tensions and keep Russia in line with a constructive diplomatic dialogue.

In this context, the interlocutors discussed steps to strengthen further support for Ukraine in the Latin American region.

In addition, Kuleba and Flores paid special attention to increasing trade.

The minister also exchanged invitations to pay reciprocal visits at a time convenient to them.

As Ukrinform reported, on October 6, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Mexican States Oksana Dramaretska as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Panama, Belize and the Republic of Guatemala concurrently.
