The presidents of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania have expressed their deep concern over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project and expressed their readiness to take joint action to counter Russia's monopolization of the European gas market.

That's according to a joint statement by the leaders of the three countries, published on the website of the Ukrainian president on December 20, Ukrinform reports.

"[The presidents] reiterated their strong commitment to further strengthening the European energy security and in this regard expressed their profound concern over the Nord Stream 2 project that represents a security challenge for the European region," the document said.

The presidents expressed their readiness to work together to oppose the monopolization of the European gas market by Russia, "which is using energy as a geopolitical tool."

A summit of the leaders of the Lublin Triangle - the presidents of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania - took place on Monday, December 20, at the Syniohora residence in the village of Huta, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The Lublin Triangle was set up in July 2020 by the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania, who signed a joint declaration on the establishment of a new regional alliance.
