Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council has imposed sanctions against the new owners of planes that were previously associated with Moldova's JET4U S.R.L. and performed flights to Russia.

Chief of Ukraine's SBU State Security Service Ivan Bakanov said this at a briefing after a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council on Wednesday, November 10, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"While the decision on sanctions was made, four aircraft were outside Ukraine, and one aircraft used by Medvedchuk was at Zhuliany Airport. It stays there now. Subsequently, the beneficiaries of the aircraft began to change owners and service companies," Bakanov said.

He added that in February, the SBU proposed renewing the sanctions, applying them to new non-resident owners. The new package of restrictions applied to a number of companies from the British Virgin Islands.

"We are recording attempts to change owners, service companies and serial numbers and thus bypass the sanctions. But I do not think that these legal tricks will work. After all, today the SBU recommended that the National Security and Defense Council introduce sanctions against the new owners as well," Bakanov said.

Earlier reports said that the SBU initiated the introduction of sanctions against Moldova's JET4U S.R.L. and Portugal's JET4U LDA, companies performing flights to the airports of the aggressor state. The chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Victor Medvedchuk, and his colleague, Taras Kozak, used the planes of these airlines to fly to Russia.

On February 2, President Volodymyr Zelensky put into effect the NSDC decision to impose sanctions on Medvedchuk, Kozak, and their TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne, and ZIK.
