NSDC, NATO officials discuss progress in security, defense reform implementation

“During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of monitoring the implementation of the National Security Strategy of Ukraine and the state developing strategic planning documents in the field of national security and defense, which will determine the ways and tools to implement the Strategy,” the report says.

It is noted that the parties also paid special attention to the state of security and defense sector reform within the Annual National Program under the auspices of the NATO-Ukraine Commission for 2021 and the activities of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defense Reform.

In turn, Mr. Kozhiel noted Ukraine’s “impressive” pace and progress in developing agency-level strategic documents.

He also assured of the Allies’ readiness to provide all required assistance in the process of implementing these documents and stressed the urgency of the relevant revision of the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine.

Mr. Kozhiel also stressed the importance of resuming high-level consultations within the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defense Reform.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on October 19, following talks with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Defense Minister Andriy Taran stated that Ukraine and the United States had agreed on steps to implement agreements on Ukraine's defense on land, in the air, at sea, and in cyberspace from existing and potential threats.
