Ukrainian MPs have voted in favor of appointing Ruslan Stefanchuk as new chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

Some 261 MPs supported the relevant decision at a parliament meeting on Friday, October 8, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

As reported, at a parliament meeting on Thursday, October 7, MPs recalled Dmytro Razumkov from the post of the Verkhovna Rada chairman.

Ruslan Stefanchuk was elected as first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada on August 29, 2019.  Prior to that, he was a member of the Servant of the People political party.

Between 2019 and 2021, Stefanchuk served as an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky and represented the Head of State in the Verkhovna Rada.

On October 7, 2021, Zelensky dismissed Stefanchuk from the duties of president’s representative in the parliament.
