There will be 11 participants at the Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, some of whom will take part via video conference over the COVID-19 pandemic.

That’s according to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba who spoke with Ukraine 24 TV, an Ukrinform correspondent saw.

"This is the first such world summit. No one has done it before. But for this inaugural summit, we gathered enough participants. There will be 11. Given the COVID issues, some of them will participate via video link, while some will be physically present, but this is a very, very nice result for the first such summit. I’m convinced that there will be more participants at the next summit. We will work to this end as well,” Kuleba said.

Asked by reporters to elaborate on the countries to be represented by participants, the top diplomat  said: "There will be guests from both Europe and overseas."

According to the chief of Ukraine’s diplomacy, it is important that not only the first ladies partake in the summit.

"We have also invited really awesome experts from various fields: health care, education, and equality coming from all over the world to take part in the event. There will be stars among the first ladies, real stars also among experts and moderators, but, of course, the main star of the summit will be our First Lady Olena Zelenska, who, in fact, is organizing this global event," said the foreign minister.

He also added that there are plans to hold such a summit annually.

“I am convinced that the second summit will arouse a lot of interest, there will be more participants. We hope that by that moment the pandemic will have been overcome and everyone will be able to attend physically. But I really like the sound of it – the Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. This is a brand that I believe will be a success story,” Kuleba said.

He added that the Sofia of Kyiv Sanctuary was chosen as the summit venue.

As reported, the Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen will take place in Kyiv on August 23, on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day. The event is organized on the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
