Taylor: Biden’s administration already selected Ukrainian ambassador nominee

The U.S. administration has already selected a nominee for the post of ambassador to Ukraine and is currently completing the necessary procedures before the appointment.

“The United States has a mission in Ukraine but has no ambassador. However, I have reliable information that the ambassador has already been selected and now this person is going through the necessary procedures and will arrive in Kyiv after obtaining the Senate’s consent,” former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor said during a discussion organized by the Ukrainian Free University, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He stressed that Biden’s administration was still being formed and had a number of important vacancies.

"We have to wait a while before drawing conclusions about the Biden’s administration. Yes, I do not agree with their decision on Nord Stream, but it is well known that this administration is headed by a president who knows Ukraine and Russia, and this is very important," the ex-ambassador said.

As reported, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch became a participant in the process of impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump after her mission in Ukraine had been prematurely completed by a presidential decision in 2019. Since then, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has been operating without an ambassador. It later became known that Yovanovitch’s dismissal was initiated by Lev Parnas, a onetime associate of Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

In addition, former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko released a statement that Yovanovitch had allegedly put pressure on him, although she denied that under oath at the U.S. Congress.

At the end of January last year, Yovanovitch resigned from the U.S. Department of State after more than 30 years of diplomatic service.
