Péter Szijjártó, Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, assured that he would help eastern Ukraine as much as possible.

“It is very sad that there are still places in Europe in the 21st century where the military conflicts are ongoing. It is clear that this entry-exit checkpoint in Stanytsia Luhanska is one of the saddest places in Europe. Now that we are chairing the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, we will do everything possible to help as much as possible. With our own means, we are trying to achieve that the agreements reached in Minsk are fulfilled,” Szijjártó said at a press conference during a visit to the line of contact in the Joint Forces Operation area in eastern Ukraine on July 22, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The minister noted that Hungary had allocated EUR 140,000 for the Council of Europe's program to support Ukraine and financed the reconstruction of a medical center in Stanytsia Luhanska.

Szijjártó added that 21 Hungarians worked in the OSCE SMM and intended to continue participating in it.

“We sincerely hope that this sad situation, which makes the lives of many people dire, will disappear as soon as possible,” he said.

As reported, Szijjártó made a visit to Ukraine at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
