Monastyrsky agrees to head Ukrainian Interior Ministry

The current chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement, Denys Monastyrsky, has accepted the proposal to head the Ukrainian Interior Ministry.

Monastyrsky told this to journalists on Tuesday, July 13, after a meeting of the Servant of the People faction, which discussed the resignation of Arsen Avakov and the appointment of the new interior minister, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"I have made the most difficult decision of my life - to answer 'yes' to the president's proposal to head the Interior Ministry. It happened just a few minutes ago. I understand what a sacrifice I make as a person, as a politician, but I made this choice and I will be a candidate for this position," Monastyrsky said.

Avakov resigned as Ukraine's interior minister on July 13.
